The Vegatable Patch

The first field you come to is filled with vegatables, and several savoury fruit. Strawberries are fat and ripe waiting to be picked and it's a bumper crop of peas. Summer is here! And Farmer Fairclough is hiring.
A broad, untidy man with a straw hat that the birds could have easily used as a nest approches. "Well 'avent we had a busy day today! another one!... At least I think I haven't seen you around before... Well, best get to work. This vegatable patch won't water itself!"And with that he leaves you to it.

This season is; Summer best get watering!

Rules: You roleplay one post her per day here, for five days. Then it is time to get payed! Don't know what to post here? It does often give a clue as what to do above. Get going! All of the normal roleplaying rules apply here.

Alex appeared on the field, seemingly out of no where. He was sent here to work, though he didn't see the point. Still, if it would help Zal, it would help him. After listening to the farmer man, he set to work carrying a watering can with his tail. Being a quetzal, it wasn't easy, but he was sure it would eventually pay off. Alex set a pace to his work that would be managable and made it seem easier. Fly over the patch, go back, fill up, fly over, go back, fill up, fly over.... With a few stops in between for rest and to pull up some some weeds. He still wished he could be at the Library with Zal or back at home relaxing instead of working here, but there wasn't much he could do about that.

Skyiel was like, the goddess of growing plants. No one could really deny her mad skills. Carefully watering each of her beloved strawberries, she began to talk as if she spoke to the plants themselves.

"Yes, yes, do any of you need any more water? Oh! You do? I'm so terribly sorry that I missed over you!"

No, nothing made Skyiel happier then being surrounded by plants, growing plants. She'd always considered them Mother's gifts, and then felt silly because her Mother had obviously not made them. She giggled a bit. After a while, she finished the watering, and she lay in the dirt between the rows of fruit to talk to the plants. Everyone else thought it weird, but that was only because they weren't the same. They couldn't hear the whispers of happiness, discontent, and even anger that helped her so much. Not that the plants were always so emotional, no, they made fine conversational partners as well. Much better and much more concise little speakers than her best friend Ramiel the Bloodwine. Not that she'd ever tell him that.

Alex returned for the next day's work, deciding he should go about it more carefully so he would to a good job. He sat down between the rows and began tugging at weeds with his tail. Once he was sure he had gotten every last one, he went to get the watering can. Once he had this all filled up, Alex set to work flying over each row individually and made sure every plant got the right amount of water. It was slower than yesterday's work, but it was a better job than before.

Skyiel returned to watering her plants, carefully counting out just the right amount of water. Sky was practically OCD about her plants, and she always listened very carefully to them. She didn't care what the farmer said, the plants knew what they needed. Oh! This plant was smaller and it couldn't get any sun! She carefully transplanted it to another row where it got the sun it needed, and then returned to watering. Every plant had to be happy, or she'd be useless. They had to be perfect...

It's okay, missus, we're fine.

The plants, whispering to her, comforting her. It was okay.

Sky sighed. She loved plants. She had just finished watering them again when it occurred to her how important water was - both preventing dehydration and allowing for the process of photosynthesis. That was a good thought. Everything always seemed so fresh around plants, so new. It was like raising a puppy-dog and teaching it to be good. Plants wanted to be picked, too, to pass on their genes to a new generation of plants. She didn't like it, but she knew it had to be done. Yet it always made her uncomfortable to hear the screams, not unhappy, but still in pain, dreadful, dreadful pain. Screams no one else would here.

We love you, missus.

Again Alex came back for more work. Now h didn't have to b reminded where everything was; h practically knew the place inside and out. He noticed another Quetzal who had been arriving very day for work two, but he never really spoke to her. She seemed a little... off. Ignoring this for the time being, Alex set to work on watering and weeding. The usual pace he set as carefully as he could to do the best job he could. Now, he didn't really mind too much about being here and enjoyed it a little. It seemed so... pleasant. He knew, though, that by the end of the week his job would be over. Now, he wasn't sure whether to look forward to that or not.

Alex returned for his fourth day of work and flew off to water and weed. Today he brought a gift for the plants, something that would help them get rid of a bunch of bugs he noticed yesterday. He set down a jar that Pickle gave him and unscrewed the top with his tail, releasing some very helpful ladybugs. The plants were making progress, and he could begin to tell which ones needed more water and which ones were overflowing with it.

Sky was busy exploiting her powerful dark magic in order to kill pests. Plants weren't too fond of insect-repel mixes. They were gross and smelly and they hurt the poor babies. Still...she reached down and began weeding the garden.

She heard it, then, that painful sound. She hated every moment of it, but that was life. Plants died. She really hated weeding, though. Their screams were so painful, so real.

The Fifth Day, Alex thought to himself. His work for the week as almost done.
He set to work weeding and watering, and also checked on the progress of the ladybugs. The plants seemed to be doing much better, and he didn't see any more bugs besides those (now fat) little ladybugs.

Skyiel smiled. The weeding was finally done. She continued watering the plants, still a bit depressed...she had just murdered dozens of lives. She was crying, in fact, extremely depressed...

Don't cry, miss. Why are there no butterflies?

"Hello sir. I'm here for work." Shadow explained happily. She didn't like to be out in the heat much, but it was said that there was good pay out for it here. And working with plants wasn't that bad. Picking up a watering can, she glided over to the first section of vegetables, and immediately noticed the weeds. Although it seemed that there had been others who had done this job, the weeds were percistant. Pulling them up with her tail, Shadow went all the way through the patches, and finally managed to get the weeds. But then it hit her that she had totally forgotten to water! Rushing over, she picked the watering can up in her mouth and began to water. Refilling it many times, she worked until sundown, but managed to finish that days work up. So that meant she only had four more days to go. Yipee...

Running back to the fields, Shadow desperately hoped the farmer wouldn't count this against her. She had gotten tied up at the hollow with three younglings trying to pet her, and before he knee it, night fall was upon her. She has rushed here as quickly as possible, but it seemed that the faarmer had long since gone to bed. But it didn't matter to Shadow. Grabbing up the watering can, she set to work at a brisk pace. Before long, she had gotten almost all of the field. The only part left was a few feet of ground that had some newly budding stalks coming out of the fertile ground. Giving those an extra does of water, she set the pail down, satisfied with her work.

Shadow rushed back for her third day. She was late, of course, but she didn't really mind. It was peaceful at night, no one to disturb her while she worked. That also meant the work went faster. After a while, she slowed down, not wanting to leave so soon. Carefully inspecting each plant, Shadow picked through the budding leaves and took out each and every weed she found. Once that was done though, it was almost dawn. Realizing that she was going to be tired, she headed off toward home.

Her fourth day. Once again, she was late. But then again, Shadow had begun to like the idea of sleeping durig the day and being active at night. It was so peaceful, but still buzzing with unseen life. She felt comfortable, secure almost, when it was dark. Picking up the watering can, she refilled it and set to work. She left the weeds for tomorrow, her final day. She had worked hard to get the vegetable patch in shape before the weather began to cool in the coming months, and was proud of her work. After a while, Shadow could say with clear mind that she had done each plant carefully, and that she was ready to head back home. Putting the watering can back in its usual resting place, she left.

Sapphire loved plants. She loved watching them grow, taking care of them, all that fun stuff. Heck, she even liked working out in the hot sun, something not many others enjoyed. She especially loved the autumn harvest, but now was not the season. It was summer time, the plants still needed to grow! So, here she was, her bright blue coat sticking out amongst the green of the crops. She carried a hose carefully in her jaws so as not to puncture it. The water sprayed from the ends, showering the crops with much needed water. Good thing she was here, as it hadn't rained in a while. She also didn't notice many others around who would also tend the crops, so she was a happy camper. Not only was she doing what she loved, but doing it the way she wanted, alone with nature. When Sapphire was finished watering the crops she rolled the hose back up and went to the farmer. "I'll be back tomorrow," she said cheerfully, beaming. Today had been such a good day of gardening.

Okay, day two. The bright colored hoolie was walking through the rows of crops, sifting through them to pick out the bad spots. She didn't need to water them today, or they would be over watered. Sapphire liked the tedious work, though it was more difficult for her than watering. Her beak was of good use, but the wilted and rotten parts of the plants didn't taste good in her mouth. So, she used the claws on her feet. Once in a while she'd get a little bit of the good part of the plant, but other than that she was getting all the bad stuff out so the good stuff could thrive. When she had finished she went to the farmer. "I'll be back tomorrow," she said happily before walking away and going home to rest.

The blue hoolie was in the garden again. This time she was weeding around the base of the plants, getting rid of the bad guys, she called it. She had a woven basket hanging on the end of her tail so that she could place the weeds in it. Sapphire would occasionally got over to the compost pile to empty the bucket to make room for more weeds. The weeds she was picking were of all sizes. Some were large, some just beginning. She was doing her best to get all of them so that they wouldn't be there later to pick again. After finishing the weeding she went to the farmer. "I'll be back tomorrow," she said with a smile, getting used to the line.

This was Sapphire's fourth day at the vegetable patch. One more day and she could move on to the more complex gardening. She smiled as she picked up the hose again. After yesterday in the hot heat, the plants would definitely need a drink. The hose was held lightly in her mouth like she had the other day. The water squirted out, giving the plants a shower. She could almost feel them sigh in relief. Once the blue hoolie was done watering, she put the hose back were it was. Then she went over to the farmer. "See ya tomorrow," she said, changing up her good-bye a little bit.

It was now Sapphire's last day at the vegetable patch. She would miss the place very much, but she was ready to move on to bigger and better things. Today she went through each aisle looking for new weeds and dried out plants. And plant that was dry to took a watering can to and she took every weed out. When she was done she went over to the farmer. "I'm finished," she said with a smile before leaving.

Tut tut. Shadow was far too late. Perhaps he'd give him another chance, but he wasn't going to get payed this week. Atleast when Sapphire had to be somewhere she'd had the decency to tell him; that was a girl that would go far.

(I'll be sending the payment once I work out what it's going to be, Jobie~ xD)
